Adolfo E. Miralles, FAIA, Founder, Advisor

Throughout nearly five decades in architecture, Adolfo E. Miralles, FAIA has had an overwhelming sense of responsibility and stewardship towards society, nature and his clients. Over the years, he has greatly advanced the living standards of our culture without compromising his concern for each client. In 1972, after 14-years as a practicing architect, Adolfo founded Miralles Associates, Inc. [MAI] establishing an organization with expertise in master planning and architectural design.

Beginning in the 1980’s and continuing on through today, Adolfo and MAI have become involved in the planning and design of Los Angeles’ mass transit systems along with growth in many other market sectors. The transit infrastructure activities have shifted LA’s focus slightly to a less car-dependent society, as well as presenting Mr. Miralles with community recognition and awards. For example, in 1993, Adolfo received the First Place Award, Intermediate-Sized Community for the “Electric Ways of Pasadena” competition and the Beautification Award for the Los Angeles-Long Beach Metro Blue Line Stations. His true belief is that transportation creates urban environments and experiences that shape communities.

Transportation is only one piece that Mr. Miralles has addressed over the years. Adolfo has been a huge advocate of community participation and integration of art into facilities, advancing the living standards of citizens on more than 500 projects in market sectors such as:

Education Historical Planning
Municipal Industrial Parks and Recreation
Commercial Library Residential
Community Medical
Federal Military

From being the leader of fourteen teaching sessions in residential design for students of Nightingale Middle School in 1994 to his recent five-year participation in the ACE Mentor Program his deep commitment is evident.

In 1998, with 26-years of practice as Miralles Associates, Inc., numerous completed projects and design awards bestowed to him and the firm, Adolfo E. Miralles received his Fellowship to the American Institute of Architects [AIA]. Adolfo is one of a few Latino architects selected to the AIA College of Fellows for “Notable Contribution to the Advancement of the Profession of Architecture"; specifically due to his extensive involvement in diverse communities, efforts on behalf of creating sustainable environments, long-time Pasadena Foothill Chapter membership and his past presidency.
